I don't see it as so much stirring up contoversy as I do a wake up call. People who have never studied with the JWs need an idea as to just how they think, and I think Brad came up with an apt analogy.

That's the most disgusting thing I've read. I don't believe for one second that a normal person would willingly volunteer to be slaughtered. There had to have been something wrong with this guy.

Why the WT hates Christmas
by bebu inok, this is just a funny thought.. it is noted that saint nicholas, who attended that first ecumenical council, got so upset with arius' insistence that jesus was only a man that he punched arius in the face (and got his bishop status revoked until several bishops reportedly had visions that he should be restored...).
i guess that could explain why jws (=arius) hate christmas (=st.
nick)-- a grudge?.

Unless Aries was a witness, I doubt that has any bearing on it. After all, the dubs could care less about anybody or anything not associated with their group.

- Take random numbers in the Bible and plug it into a formula to somehow get 1914.
- Think God is against war, yet he led to Israelites to victory in the Old Testament.
- Think the 144,000 know who they are.
- Overuse the "faithful and discreet slave" line as an excuse that all dubs should listen to all drviel the WT society spews out.
- Have rankings such as unbaptized publisher, publisher, and pioneer.
- You have virtually no rights until you are baptized in their group.
- Being baptized in another religion doesn't count.

I have to go with Brad on this one. He was not trying to offend anyone with the use of the N word. While his tactics of converting his friend may seem a bit eccentric, there is a striking similarity between the way the two words are used.
The only difference is the N word is common knowledge, while very few people understand or know about the JWs and their beliefs. I think if the JWs were more prominent, then the term "wordly people" would have equal weight with the N word.
Don't get mad at Brad, folks. He was simply pointing out how elitist and stuck up the JWs are, much in the same way people are who use the N word.

FAT PEOPLE = BAD ASSOCIATION
by Funchback ini carry a few extra pounds but i generally don't overeat.
however, i enjoy a good meal.
but, the organization that says, "let us not judge others" is giving it's members free reign to judge those who are overweight (in the judger's eyes).

So that covers people who like their meat - steaks, roasts, chops, ribs, burgers, meatballs, etc...
But I see no scriptural reference condemning gluttonous eaters of cakes, pies, loaves, pasta, potatos, chips, sugar-laden soft drinks, candies, chocolates, vegetable fats and oils.
Interestingly enough, the old testament forbids Jews from eating pork, because it's unclean. However, every Wednesday night for the WT prep study for Sunday, we would almost always have pork chops.
I don't think they will ever seriously enforce this fat people rule. If they did, they would lose a great deal of people, some of which are respected members. Carrying this rule out to the extreme would just cause the organization to collapse on itself...so let's hope they do it. *Crosses fingers.*

Infidelity amongst JWs
by YellowLab indoes there seem to be a higher incidence of infidelity amongst the jws?.
my brother, who is an active jw and ministerial servant, has an elder friend who was recently disfellowshipped for having an affair with another sister in the hall.
it turns out this sister was divorced a few years earlier from a "worldly" man who had an affair on her.

I've been hit on by a married MS and a married elder. So you know they were all about cheating. But in all honesty I doubt their cheating stats are no different that anyone else.
I agree. You just hear about the JWs doing it more because of disfelloshipping and because it's more controversial and interesting because it's an even bigger no-no for them...supposedly.

Christmas may have Pagan origins, but I don't see why that's a bad thing. What's wrong with a family getting together and having fun?

by jonnydangerous inkinda new to the forums, stumbled across this discussion board whilst researching the wt involvement with the un as an ngo, laughed my head off when i found out they got booted cuz everyone gave em a bad rap (serv's em right) http://www.aimoo.com/forum/postview.cfm?id=311102&categoryid=3459&threadid=1131916&highlight_key=y&keyword1=ngo.
anyway, been a "baptized" jw since 13 at the cow palace (now 20).... been a "questioning" jw since a few months after my "baptism".... still hang around the jw's... heck i was brought up as one from a tot and all of my good friends are jw's... even my girlfriend is a jw..... sigh... i've told her my stance... i'm way more liberal when it comes to religion and spirituality than i was taught to be, and bless the creator, she still loves me.
but anyway i'm at a continuing crossroads, as far as staying or leaving.... i shan't be in this state of mind for much longer but i'm just trying to get good reasons to pack the bags.... if anyone has some "meat" for me to sink my teeth into pass it my way.. haha, wow i'm spilling my guts and no one even knows me yet lol.

I keep having this underlying feeling that the WTS is run by a much darker, shadier organization....
You're gut instincts serve you well. You won't have to look hard to find topics about how the organization covers up for child molestors.

Hi Jonny. I'm glad you found us, because a lot of people here can tell you stories and offer evidence as to why you should leave.
For me, I got sick of the stuck up "we're better than everyone else" the witnesses seem to exude. Also, I think they are too black and white as far as their thinking is concerned.
Remember, you have free will. Your friends, family, and girlfriend have no right to force you to continue to be a JW if you have serious doubts. These people purport to be the truth, yet they have made serious errors concerning the end day. Think about it, would a group of men led by Jesus himself make such errors? Their doctrine just doesn't add up Jonny.
Either way, best wishes whichever way you go.
